The portrait procedure begins with an initial information meeting with the client. Various aspects of the portrait will be discussed, such as mood, composition, clothing, setting, size and where the portrait will hang. This meeting also provides an opportunity to have all client questions answered. In order to capture the subject's personality, I feel it is especially important to see the subject in a relaxed atmosphere among possessions that are meaningful to him or her. For equine subjects, I like to spend time with the horse and observe him or her in the stall, corral, or pasture. My process is to take many digital photos to ensure a variety of poses and
expressions. Please allow about two hours for the photo session. We will then view these reference photos, using my laptop, and decide together on the look of the final painting. After we have agreed on all the specifics you will be asked to sign a contract and pay a 25% non-refundable deposit. The next step is for me to return to my studio where I will make a pencil sketch of the proposed composition. For commissions with complicated backgrounds, or larger group portraits, a small study in oils will be produced. Upon your approval of the sketch or color study, another 25% non-refundable fee is collected and an approximate completion date will be given.  I will then begin to paint your portrait, in oil on linen canvas. Only the best quality art materials are used for the painting. Usually, portrait paintings are completed in one month, depending upon size. The completed portrait will be delivered unframed and the remaining 50% balance collected. Money back guarantee: If you are not completely satisfied with your portrait, I will refund you money. It is my goal to create a painting that you will cherish for years to come.

Please call for fees and to schedule an appointment to view my paintings.
